London, UK

what to wear on a date with andrew garfield

Dress: Madewell (love this one) / Shoes: Ugg / Earrings: BaubleBar / Bag: Ted Baker

Sadly this is not one of those raffle prizes or contest wins, but I did technically go to a play with Andrew Garfield. Or, I went to the play. He was in it. Same thing.

Although I have travelled large distances to see my favorite actors live (Andrew in NYC once before, Jesse Eisenberg in NYC, Gemma Arterton and Jude Law in London), this one fell nicely into our already-planned trip to London. And Andrew just so happened to be starring in one of the most relevant masterpieces, Angels in America. My good friend Sarah graciously went with me and since the show was a matinee we had brunch at Duck and Waffle beforehand and then strolled along the Southbank afterwards, which is one my absolute favorite places in London. I've had this Madewell dress and worn it on multiple occasions - it's v easy to throw on and feel automatically fancy! Plus it goes great with my fave BaubleBar earrings, and basically I felt fab and thought Andrew deserved to see me in my finest ;)

All of this superficial talk about celebrity crushes and fun clothes should not distract from the fact that Angels in America is a very serious and important play about the LGBTQ+ community, religion, and what freedom means in America. Obviously these issues remain relevant and, devastatingly, unresolved in our current political climate. As a former English major, I will never not be impressed by how literature and art continue to reflect, shape, and challenge our society. Art reminds us to keep pushing forward, the play proclaims: "The great work begins."
