This is one of those TedTalks that spreads far and wide. And it should - because Rita Pierson is an amazing educator and advocate for her students, and her message is just so perfectly conveyed with both humor and heartbreaking honesty. It's from this inspiring video that many of my educator friends get the following quote to plaster around their classroom walls:

I am somebody.
I was somebody when I came.
I'll be a better somebody when I leave.
I am powerful, and I am strong.
I deserve the education that I get here.
I have things to do, people to impress, and places to go.
