One of the absolute best parts of going to Nice was the fact that Matisse lived there for the last forty or so years of his life. Matisse is my favorite artist by far and I was so excited to be able to see the city that influenced his later works. You can see how the colors of the French Riviera - the bright oranges and blues - and the way the beaches and water influenced his paintings. Best of all, there is a whole museum dedicated to Matisse! It is located a bit outside of the center of Nice, in a lovely large park that also has a Marc Chagall museum. It's a small museum, but so lovely! I of course had to wear my cut-out inspired top to blend in with Matisse's work and the local foliage ;)
